OncoRNALab @ OncoPoint 2024

Presenting advances at OncoPoint 2024

On the 29th of April, CRIG in collaboration with Kankercentrum UZ Gent hosted the OncoPoint symposium 2024. In an exceptional venue, the Saint Peter's Abbey, cancer researchers from UGent, UZ Gent and VIB-UGent, met and presented their latest work via selected abstracts and posters presentations.

The OncoRNALab was represented by several of our colleagues at the OncoPoint symposium 2024.

Using CRISPRi to study long non-coding RNAs

Xin Wang, a PhD student at OncoRNALab, presented a poster about the strategy she is using to establish a high-througput CRISPRi arrayed screening platform for the systematic identification of functional lncRNAs.

New pipeline to design assays for fusion transcripts detection

Post-doctoral researcher Annelien Morlion’s poster summarized FUSIONprimerXL workflow and validation results. Fusion transcripts are known to drive tumorigenesis. Therefore, having a pipeline to design RT-qPCR assays for its detection is a very useful tool.

How are pre-analytical variables reported in studies focused on RNA from blood plasma?

This is the question that postdoctoral-researcher Anneleen Decock addressed in the poster she presented. Her study concludes that most of the variables are not adequately reported in most of the analyzed papers. For this poster, Anneleen received a prize during the symposium. Additionally, this study has been already published in Molecular Oncology and can be found here.
